Winter 2018: Sweaters Exhibition
November 1, 2018 - January 21, 2019

In nearly 20 years that the 100 Market Gallery has been in existence, Michael Simchik has steered clear of any shows which had a personal or self-interest approach as he feels the 100 Market Gallery is and has always been for the wider artistic community. But just for once Michael is breaking his own rule—this show will be different. We have adorned the walls with close to 70 sweaters (1st, 2nd and 3rd floors) which were knitted over a 35-year period by Michael’s Aunt Dorothy for Michael, Jacki, Casey and Jamie Simchik. Each and every one of the sweaters tells a story, whether that be a children’s activity, a seasonal theme or a complex pattern of many colors. Aunt Dorothy invented her own patterns for the sweaters which makes them not only unique but truly pieces of art. Aunt Dorothy never sold one sweater and she only made them for Michael and his family.
Michael says his only regret is Aunt Dorothy and Jacki will not be here to see the show as they have both passed away, but they would be thrilled to know of this celebration of Aunt Dorothy and her excellent craftsmanship of wearable art!
